Like Cailleach, Blackthorn appears to show you have a role to play and it is not always an easy one. At times people may misunderstand your intentions, for they can appear harsh. Draw strength from Blackthorn to stand in your power, knowing that you do what is necessary for good to eventually prevail. You have the ability to influence the behaviours of those around you in order to create change. Where Blackthorn walks, winter storms form and this heralds snow and death. However, this is necessary for life to bloom when spring awakens. Blackthorn reminds you of your responsibility. The responsibility that comes with knowledge.

She can also be a warning that it is time to seek refuge before a cruel and difficult time. Though she may be seen as a bad omen, Blackthorn brings you aspects of transformation, protection and guardianship. She looks after you and encourages you to look after others. Just as day follows night, spring follows winter, new beginnings come after endings. At times a cull is necessary to clear the path and help you move forward.

Blackthorn and Cailleach, the Goddess of Winter, lend you spiritual strength and compassion when you must deal with what you cannot avoid. Holding in her hand the seeds of new life through the winter months, Cailleach reminds you that new stages will arise and that wisdom often only comes with age. Her powerful and forthright energy will help you guard what you can and surrender to what is out of your control. She will guide you during life's hardships and transitions.
