Meet your teacher Roxanne – Ceramic Artist & Educator
Roxanne is an accomplished artist and educator with roots in Victoria and over 25 years spent immersed in the vibrant arts community of Western Australia. Now based in Brisbane, she works from her studio at The Nest in West End, where she continues her lifelong passion for ceramics—particularly wheel throwing.
“It’s the process of urgency and patience that gets me every time, the fast moving wheel, the slow moving hands, the soft texture of the clay the hard utilitarian item that it becomes”
Having completed a degree in Art Education in the late 1980s, Roxanne has spent decades teaching adults across disciplines including ceramics, drawing, painting, and art theory, both in the TAFE system and independent settings. She is known for her ability to guide absolute beginners into success on the wheel, often achieving results that impress even experienced potters. Her teaching approach blends technical rigor with an intuitive, supportive style that builds confidence and sparks creativity.
Throughout her career, Roxanne has remained active in the contemporary art scene while staying grounded in the tactile and meditative practice of throwing clay. She is drawn to the wheel’s rituals, its balance of fragility and strength, and its timeless connection to human hands and form.
Her early experience at an art therapy clinic in New York City shaped a deep commitment to empowering others through creativity—a philosophy that continues in her current work within the NDIS sector. With insight, compassion, and a strong foundation in inclusive education, Roxanne creates welcoming, expressive spaces for all to explore their artistic voice.
