King Of The Fairy Ring – The King of the Fairy Ring watches over the Mushroom Fairies
The creation of this piece was a little challenge to myself. To complete it I had to throw large pieces on the pottery wheel and join them in a way that was structurally sound, to allow me to get the piece through the firing as I envisioned. Many of the stages and joins had to be done when the clay was just the right level of dryness to allow me to manipulate it as I needed to. I supported the mushroom dome as it dried, removing little supports as it shrunk during its drying time.
The fairy hare king sitting atop the mushroom blows his little flower trumpet in triumph of the kiln gods being kind to us. I always think fungi is the perfect example of how there are many factors at play that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Just because we cannot see it or may not yet understand it, it does not mean that it isn’t true. We can just trust that there are bigger powers at play.
