Sat 9th August 10am - 1pm - Watercolour Australian Birds Workshop - Advanced-Beginner/Intermediate Watercolour Painting
To start, Ingrid will guide you through some useful techniques for when painting feathers and how to break down the shape and colouring of the bird to make it easier to paint. We'll discuss when wet on wet and wet on dry techniques can be used, and also some demos in layering.
Using these skills, Ingrid will then step you through how to paint a rainbow lorikeet. As the focus is on developing watercolour skills, templates will be provided, however drawing your own composition is also always welcome! If time permits, you can also request demos from Ingrid if you have a specific bird painting question in mind.
About Ingrid :
Based in Meanjin/Brisbane, Ingrid Bartkowiak is an artist and illustrator who works primarily in watercolour. Her hand painted work features native Flora, Fauna and Fungi. Ingrid has a fascination with all things small and intricate, from tufts of moss on a footpath to the fungi sprouting from a wombat dropping. At a young age, she discovered painting as an intimate way of connecting with nature. Inspired by botanical illustration and the Arts & Crafts movement, Ingrid’s technique makes use of the watercolour medium through tiny patterns, exquisite detail, and vivid blocks of colour.
Since graduating from QCA in 2019, Ingrid has worked across a diverse array of projects, including picture book illustration, murals, packaging designs and even pet portraits. She has worked with clients such as New Farm Confectionery, Biome, Brisbane City Council and exhibited in galleries and group shows across Australia.
“My main hope is that my artworks might act as an avenue for those that view them to learn more about (and appreciate) the incredible Flora, Fauna and Fungi we have on this planet, and why it’s important to preserve its biodiversity.”
