Lure of the Swan Maiden – The beauty of the unknown

I love the swan maiden tales and I wanted to pay homage to them in the creation of this piece. Swan maidens are found in folklore tales across the world. Swans themselves are often linked to the Otherworld and seen as able to move between worlds. They have been thought to shapeshift between their human and swan form by wearing their feathered cloak.

The body of the swan is thrown on the wheel and the rest is hand built. The fairy figure that rides the swan, holds her hands aloft with a look of peaceful serenity on her face.
