Part of Redlands Coast AdventureFest
Celebrate the beauty of the Redlands Coast and the spirit of Country in this immersive native floral workshop led by Nadine McDonald-Dowd of Blak Botanics.
Blak Botanics is a First Nations–led floristry practice that celebrates the beauty and diversity of flora native to this country. For generations, native plants have carried story, culture, and knowledge - shaping how moments are marked, gatherings are honoured, and connections to Country are expressed.
Nadine is a Yuwi woman from Mackay, North Queensland, who has lived and worked across the Brisbane region and now calls the Sunshine Coast home. With over 30 years’ experience in the arts, her floristry practice is grounded in sustainability, collaboration, and deep respect for native flora. Guided by her knowledge and gentle teaching style, you’ll work with foraged and sustainably sourced native materials inspired by the Redlands Coast, learning how to build a natural base before weaving in native blooms and botanicals.
Participants can choose to create a flower crown, table decoration, or small wreath, each piece shaped with intention and care. This is a slow, mindful making process - where each stem tells a story and every creation becomes a personal expression of connection to land, culture, and creativity.
As part of Redlands Coast AdventureFest, this workshop offers a meaningful way to experience the region through native flora, shared stories, and hands-on making.
You’ll leave with your handcrafted botanical piece and a deeper appreciation for the resilience, beauty, and cultural significance of Australia’s native plants.

About Nadine:
Blak Botanics Is about celebrating the beauty & diversity of flora native to this country.
Our People have been shaping stories on this country for generations & native flora has always played a very strong part of that telling process. From bunches to bouquets, arrangements to installations, projects to special moments, we are a First Nations led business, working sustainably, collaborating and learning with plenty of stories to tell.
My name is Nadine McDonald-Dowd & I am a Yuwi women from Mackay North Queensland. I’ve worked for over 30 years in the arts industry & well, it was time, so at 49 years of age, I did a certificate 3 in Floristry.
There is so much for me to learn, to listen to & to hopefully share as this little venture begins to grow & blossom - pun intended. I’m a simple person who loves working with our Native flora & ultimately just want to share that joy with others.
