Held in the Turning - Woodland Moon Guardian

Held in the Turning is a sculptural vessel exploring the continuum of time through seasonal cycles, folklore, and oral tradition. The circular form echoes the turning year - an unbroken loop held within a gathering of guardians.

At the centre, a feminine figure crowned with hare ears emerges as a liminal presence of the wild. Her spiralled hair recalls ancient stone carvings and neolithic earth marks. She is not commanding. She is listening.

Below her, the hare rises - ears lifted, alert. There is a quiet exchange between them: instinct meeting wisdom, wildness meeting knowing. The hare listens to the woman. The woman listens to the land. The gesture evokes oral tradition and the subtle transmission of knowledge across generations - the kind that is spoken softly, remembered bodily, and carried forward through story.

An owl stretches across the ring in silent flight - guardian of the unseen, seer through shadow. Owl and hare together embody intuition and memory. Oak leaves and acorns wrap the base in strength, endurance, and lineage - anchoring the work in ancestral continuity.

Two integrated vessels form part of the structure:

• An upper bowl - for herbs, salt, water offerings, crystals, or a small candle flame.
• A lower cup nestled among oak leaves - for incense, written intentions, or ritual keepsakes.

The glazes move through deep woodland browns, mossed greens, and moonlit blues, pooling and breaking across texture to create the sense of something unearthed rather than newly made.

The vessel offers space for ritual and reflection, grounding the work in continuity - a reminder that we are always held within the turning.

These items are handmade at every stage in the making process and so each is unique. From creating the form, to hand making each batch of glaze, to hand carving and hand painting the designs, many variances are found at each stage of the process. Each piece is mindfully created in my studio over a number of weeks, with each finished piece having its own subtle differences. That is the beauty of handmade. These photos are a representation of the piece from this collection you will receive.
