Handbuilt Christmas Fireplace
9am–3pm | 6-hour workshop
Create a little piece of Christmas magic in clay with your own handbuilt festive fireplace.
Join Melissa in the studio for a full day of making, with plenty of time to build, sculpt, add all those tiny details and then paint and decorate your finished creation.
Starting from slabs of clay, Melissa will guide you through constructing your miniature fireplace using slab building, joining, sculpting and texturing techniques.
From there, the design is completely up to you.
Create a traditional Christmas hearth with stockings, holly, garlands and presents. Build a woodland fireplace covered in leaves, branches, mushrooms and tiny forest treasures. Give it a little witchy whimsy with stars, moons, a cauldron, potion bottles and magical details. Or keep things simple and earthy with botanical textures and natural forms.

With six hours in the studio, there’s time to really get lost in the project. Build little objects for the mantelpiece, sculpt your own decorations, experiment with textures and spend time bringing the whole scene together.
Once your fireplace is built, you can bring it to life with colour and pattern using underglazes, along with a range of studio stamps, textures and tissue transfers.
This is a lovely workshop for anyone who enjoys the whole creative process - building, sculpting, decorating and painting - with the time and freedom to make something completely individual.
Once complete, your fireplace will be carefully dried and bisque fired before being glazed and fired for a second time.
Your finished piece will be ready to collect from the studio approximately 2–3 weeks after the workshop, ready to become part of your Christmas decorations and traditions for years to come.
