Step into the warmth and creative atmosphere of a working pottery studio and spend a slow morning creating your own handmade ceramic mug or crystal cup - a piece designed not only for daily use, but for ritual, comfort, pause, and connection.

Guided by ceramic artist Carys Martin, this workshop invites you to slow down and work intuitively with clay while exploring texture, symbolism, storytelling, and personal expression through handbuilding and surface decoration.

Each participant will receive a wheel-thrown mug form at leather-hard stage to work from, allowing you to combine the functionality of a professionally thrown vessel with your own sculptural and decorative additions. You’ll then transform your piece using handbuilt elements, carving, stamping, texture, applied clay details, and optional crystal additions to create something uniquely your own.

Drawing inspiration from folklore, nature, ritual objects, seasonal living, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments, your finished piece may become part of your morning tea ritual, meditation practice, altar space, journalling routine, or simply a treasured handmade companion used daily.

This workshop is less about perfection and more about creating something meaningful - a cup that carries memory, intention, and the imprint of your own hands.

We will work with a pale stoneware clay, and you’ll choose from a range of studio glaze colours for Carys to glaze your piece in after its first firing.

The workshop runs for approximately 2 hours and is suitable for beginners through to experienced makers.

After the workshop, your piece will be slowly dried, bisque fired, glazed, and glaze fired in the kiln. Finished works will be ready for collection from the studio approximately 2–3 weeks later.

As with all handmade ceramics, occasional kiln breakages can occur. If a piece is damaged beyond repair during firing, you will be offered the opportunity to remake your piece or receive a full refund.

Studio Address - Unit 11, 7-9 Grant St Cleveland.
